Position Overview

Paidy is a fast-growing international start-up revolutionizing online payments in Japan. Paidy’s Risk & Analytics team supports decision-making and operations in all parts of Paidy’s business through data analytics and developing new risk models and tools to reduce the company’s credit and fraud risk. Paidy’s Risk & Analytics team is currently looking for an experienced data scientist to improve its ability to support the growing business, and manage credit risk within the portfolio. New joiners will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of tasks with industry and technical experts, learn new technical skills, and gain a deep understanding of the drivers of the afterpay industry. To be a successful member of the team, you should be highly adaptable, excited to learn about diverse parts of Paidy’s operations, and eager to champion the use of data-driven business strategy.

Key Role and Responsibilities 

• Work with stakeholders across Paidy to understand how their part of the business works and how data analytics can be used to support their efforts
• Understand credit and fraud risk trends that may impact Paidy’s profitability
• Analyse transactional data to gather insights about the performance of different Paidy products
• Apply data analytics knowledge to optimise and develop new credit policy to effectively manage credit risk
• Maintain and develop tools used for credit risk policy setting
• Act as a consultant to other teams
• Other duties as needed or required

Skills and Requirements 

• Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in a quantitative field, or equivalent experience
• Basic SQL / Python / R or similar coding experience is preferred
• Familiarity with AWS / Github is advantageous
• Business English is required, Japanese skills are a strong advantage
• 3 – 6 years work experience in credit risk analytics
• Most importantly, we are looking for a smart person eager to take responsibility and learn
