Driving supplier engagement and success across our platform by surfacing the right content at the right time

Role overview

Wayfair's Supplier Notifications and Recommendations system has a clear mission: We aim to drive supplier engagement and success across our platform by surfacing the right content, at the right time, through the right channel, to the right contact.

Our team is nimble, passionate, and innovative with a focus on delivery and agility. We value collaboration, feedback, and innovation - whether that's in brainstorming sessions or pair programming. You can expect to start making an impact during your first week, producing code that will be deployed to production quickly.

This role presents significant opportunities in software engineering, software architecture, mentorship, and business impact. By constantly raising the bar, you challenge how we build our products and help to improve supplier facing communication and increase their revenue by prioritising valuable actions. Successful candidates will be highly innovative, passionate about software design- and development, and solve highly complex technical projects.

What You’ll Do:

  • As a Senior Engineer, you’ll be working in a highly collaborative environment interacting with other software engineers and product managers
  • You will be responsible for the proof-of-concept, design, sequencing, estimation, and implementation, and release of products and features within a team of high-performing engineers that will shape the future of Wayfair’s supplier account management
  • You help to raise the bar by setting standards like TDD, pair programming, or test automation
  • You will contribute to the team’s technical direction through discussions & supporting writing technical documents such as RFCs & ADRs.
  • Provide high-quality code reviews and mentor new hires and other engineers to help them become more proficient using best practices and processes

What You’ll Need:

  • Several years of experience as a full-stack software engineer and an understanding of how to design and maintain a system at scale.
  • Experience in Java, and Javascript (ideally Typescript, and React)
  • Passion for supporting and collaborating on a large, cross-cutting technical product delivery across multiple teams and user needs
  • Experience mentoring engineers and conducting code reviews
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineers and product managers
  • Good understanding of TDD and other XP/Agile practices
  • Proficient in effective troubleshooting and issue resolution techniques

Location

Berlin is the capital and the largest city in Germany and well-known for its amazing festivals, exciting nightlife and a high quality of living. With a population of 3.7 million it is only second to London in the Europe Union, even with one-third of the city's area being composed of forests, parks, gardens, rivers, canals and lakes. Berlin is a city with a deep history, Bismarck, Marx, Einstein, JFK and Bowie, they’ve all shaped – and been shaped by – Berlin.

Often referred to as Europe's newest start-up capital, a new start-up is founded every 20 minutes. The startup industry is set to produce 100,000 new jobs by 2020.

It's no secret that Berlin is cheaper than many of its European counterparts. Office overheads and the price of living are cheaper, which makes it a very attractive place for tech entrepreneurs. Home to HelloFresh, Delivery Hero, and Soundcloud we expect many more household names to be coming out of Berlin in the next few years.

Did you know...

  • The average salary for a Software Engineer in Berlin is €58,765 per year
  • Berlin is the second most populous city in the EU
  • 250+
